About This Site

The Links News blog was originally intended to provide news about the resources listed in the old Theo. Chinese Links files in between updates to those files, but eventually some of the posts there started to stretch beyond that in subject and scope. Such content is now posted here instead.

Matthew 13:38 says “the field is the world”, and “tiándì (田地)” is the Mandarin Chinese term used there in the Mandarin New World Translation to translate “field”. The various Chinese language fields (Mandarin, Cantonese, etc.) are indeed worldwide, reflecting the presence of Chinese people all over the world. In fact, when it was still in use, the mailing list for the old Links emails contained email addresses of people involved in the Chinese fields on every continent except Antarctica. (Who knows, if it turns out there are Chinese emperor penguins there, maybe there’ll eventually be a Chinese group there too!) This blog contains original content that I hope provides a deeper look at these worldwide Chinese fields, and at what is involved in being in them. Some of the thoughts expressed may be relevant to other language fields as well.

Some of the things that may be explored in this blog regarding how they relate to the Chinese fields and those involved in them include:

  • Language
  • Culture (including some pop culture) / Media
  • Experiences & Interviews
  • News
  • Technology
  • History
  • Travel

There will be no doctrinal discussions on this site. I am fully supportive of our mother organization, which has that covered, and the content on this site is not intended to displace or compete with anything it publishes. If anything, I hope you fellow workers will find this site to be a good alternative to worldly web sites, magazines, etc. It is meant to be a source of information and commentary on topics like the ones listed above, but written specifically for you, not worldly people.

I will make every reasonable effort to check my facts before posting anything, but I am an imperfect human who may slip up or miss something once in a while. Also, there will be a certain amount of personal observation and personal opinion on this blog. Commenting will be enabled, so feel free to contribute to the discussion in an upbuilding and encouraging way. Note that Comment Moderation is enabled, so anonymous comments will not appear until they have been cleared.

Besides the original content discussed above, this site is also the base for the short links that replaced the old Theo. Chinese Links files for directing people to resources for Chinese fields language learners. (A good short link to start with is tiandi.info/links.)

Whether you are in a Chinese field or are considering joining one, or you’re in a non-Chinese language field, I hope that you find your visit to this site to be worthwhile and enjoyable, and that it enriches and deepens your understanding and appreciation of what is involved in such interesting and exciting fields of activity.

If you have any comments or questions about this blog or the things mentioned in it, you can use the Contact page to email me.

If you like, you can also…

…to help support this blog and the resources mentioned in it that I work on.

May Jehovah continue to bless your efforts in the Chinese fields!

Your fellow worker,
Wayne Wong
